With a recorded history of more than 2,600 years, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has formed a unique system to diagnose and cure illness. The TCM approach is fundamentally different from that of Western medicine. In TCM, the understanding of the human body is based on the holistic understanding of the universe as described in Daoism, and the treatment of illness is based primarily on the diagnosis and differentiation of syndromes.

Evaluation of a syndrome includes the cause, mechanism, location, and nature of the disease, and also the confrontation between the pathogenic factor and body resistance. Treatment is based on the symptoms, as well as differentiation of syndromes. Therefore, those with an identical disease may be treated in different ways, and on the other hand, different diseases may result in the same syndrome and are treated in similar ways.

During the first-time consultation, the practitioner will diagnose and recommend a customized program which may consist of one or a combination of the following treatments:

Acupuncture is exceptionally efficient in a wide variety of conditions through
its power to stimulate the mind and body's own healing response.

During an acupuncture treatment, needles are inserted for a certain amount
of time, depending on the effect required. During this time there may be a heavy sensation in the limbs and a pleasant feeling of relaxation. Treatment with acupuncture can produce rapid results but more often it requires a number of treatments over a period of time. Usually treatments are once or twice a week. Sometimes the benefit is quite dramatic and the patient will only need two or three treatments. Other times the effect is subtle and may require treatment for several months. There is, however, usually some change after about five treatments.

Auricular acupuncture is one of the more widely used microsystems within eastern medicine. Microsystems use one aspect of the body - for example, the ears, hands or feet - to treat conditions that are present anywhere in the body. Auricular acupuncture may be used as a primary mode of treatment or in conjunction with other treatments such as acupuncture, bodywork or herbal medicine.

Acutonics® is a non-invasive treatment modality using precision-calibrated tuning forks representing a natural harmonic series based on the orbital properties of the Earth, Moon, Sun and planets which have a sympathetic resonance with the vibrational frequencies of our cells, organs, and body rhythms. They are placed on acupuncture points, chakras, or over the ears
and body to affect change via vibration along the energetic meridian system.

Cupping is an ancient Chinese method of causing local congestion. A partial vacuum is created in cups placed on the skin either by means of heat or suction. This draws up the underlying tissues. When the cup is left in place on the skin for a few minutes, blood stasis is formed and localized healing takes place.

Cupping therapy has been further developed as a means to open the 'Meridians' of the body. Meridians are the conduits in the body through which energy flows to every part of the body and through every organ and tissue. There are five meridians on the back that, when opened, allow invigorating energy to travel the whole length of the body. It has been found that cupping is probably the best way of opening those meridians.

Cupping has also been found to affect the body up to 10 cm into the tissues, thereby causing the release of toxins, and helping the activation of the lymphatic system, clearing of colon blockages, activation and clearing of the veins, arteries and capillaries, activation of the skin, clearing of stretch marks and elimination of varicose veins. Cupping is the best deep tissue massage available.

Moxibustion is a form of heat treatment that stimulates specific acupuncture points of the body. The term is derived from the Japanese "mogusa" meaning herb (mugwort) and the Latin "bustion" meaning burning.

Moxibustion therapy in conjunction with acupuncture can be very effective for many diseases and conditions including back pain, muscle stiffness, headaches, migraines, tendonitis, arthritis, digestive disorders, anxiety, and female health problems such as menstrual cramps, irregular periods, and infertility.

In indirect moxibustion, a practitioner lights one end of a moxa stick (roughly the shape and size of a cigar) and holds it about 5 cm away from the skin, usually around the inserted needles to bring mild warmth to the area without burning, until the skin becomes slightly red. The intensity of the heat is adjusted according to the patient’s condition and comfort. Indirect moxa is considered to induce a gradual localized vasodilatation response. In addition to increasing the local blood flow, skillful indirect moxibustion is extremely comforting and can create a deep relaxation response.
